Liposuction in Dubai

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes localised fat deposits through a thin suction cannula, reshaping areas that have not responded to diet and exercise. It is a contouring procedure — not a treatment for obesity or weight loss — and it does not remove cellulite or stretch marks.

Areas commonly treated

Liposuction is area-specific. Which of these is appropriate depends on fat distribution and skin quality, assessed in person.

AbdomenThe most frequently treated area, upper and lower.
Flanks and waistOften treated with the abdomen to keep the contour even.
Hips and outer thighsAddresses width and the outline of the upper leg.
Inner thighsSkin elasticity matters more here than elsewhere.
Upper armsSuits localised fat rather than loose skin.
Back and bra lineFat here is firmer and can need more work to shift.
Chin and jawlineA small-volume area where modest change is visible.

What liposuction can and cannot do

Being straightforward about the limits matters more than a list of benefits.

What it can do

  • Reduce localised fat pockets that resist diet and exercise
  • Improve the contour and proportion of a treated area
  • Address more than one area in a session, if assessment allows
  • Produce long-lasting change, provided weight stays stable

What it cannot do

  • Reduce body weight meaningfully, or treat obesity
  • Remove cellulite or stretch marks
  • Tighten significantly loose or sagging skin
  • Replace diet and exercise, or prevent future weight gain

How liposuction is performed

  1. Assessment and planningYour BMI, skin elasticity, fat distribution, medical history and current medication are reviewed to decide whether surgery is appropriate and which approach suits you.
  2. MarkingTreatment areas are mapped while you are standing, so the plan reflects how fat actually sits on your frame.
  3. AnaestheticA general anaesthetic is usual; an epidural may be used for lower-body areas.
  4. InfiltrationA fluid containing local anaesthetic and adrenaline is injected to numb the area and limit bleeding.
  5. Fat removalFat is loosened and drawn out through a fine cannula passed through small incisions.
  6. Closure and compressionIncisions are closed and a compression garment is fitted to support the new contour and control swelling.
  7. Follow-upReview appointments track healing, swelling and the settling contour.

Who liposuction suits

Usually a reasonable candidate

  • At or near a stable, healthy weight
  • Localised fat out of proportion with the rest of the body
  • Reasonable skin elasticity
  • A non-smoker, or willing to stop before and after surgery
  • In good general health, with realistic expectations

Usually not suitable

  • Looking for weight loss rather than contouring
  • Marked skin laxity with no skin-tightening plan
  • Uncontrolled diabetes, heart or clotting conditions
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Unable to commit to the recovery restrictions

Recovery week by week

A typical timeline. Your surgeon’s instructions take precedence over any general guide.
WhenWhat to expectActivity
Days 0–2Bruising, swelling and soreness; some fluid leakage from incisionsRest; garment worn continuously
Week 1Stitches removed around one week; bruising begins to fadeShort walks
Weeks 2–3Swelling starts to settle; numbness is commonDesk work often resumed, depending on extent
Weeks 3–4Shape beginning to emerge under residual swellingGentle exercise may resume
Weeks 6–8Contour increasingly apparentGarment use tapers as directed
Weeks 10–12Most swelling resolvedStrenuous exercise and heavy lifting generally cleared
Up to 6 monthsFinal contour as the last swelling resolvesNo restrictions

Risks and limitations

Liposuction is surgery, and surgery carries risk

Setting out complications plainly is part of informed consent, not a deterrent. Reported risks include:

  • Common: bruising, swelling, numbness, scars, inflammation of the treated area, fluid discharge, swollen ankles
  • Less common: lumpy or uneven results, bleeding under the skin, persistent numbness, changes in skin colour
  • Serious but uncommon: pulmonary oedema, blood clots, damage to internal organs
  • General surgical risks: excessive bleeding, venous thromboembolism, infection, reaction to anaesthetic

Seek urgent medical help for breathlessness, chest pain, a hot swollen leg, spreading redness or fever after surgery.

What affects the cost of liposuction in Dubai

A single advertised figure rarely reflects what a given operation involves. These are the variables that move the quote.

Number of areasEach additional area adds theatre time and anaesthetic time.
Volume to be removedLarger volumes need longer in theatre and closer monitoring.
AnaestheticGeneral anaesthetic requires an anaesthetist and a licensed facility.
Day case or overnightAn overnight stay adds a facility charge.
Compression garmentsUsually included, but worth confirming in writing.
Follow-up careAsk how many review appointments the quote covers.

Consultation is free. A written quote is given after examination, because suitability and the plan have to be established first. Be cautious of a fixed price quoted before anyone has examined you, and ask what is excluded as well as what is included.

Questions patients ask

Is liposuction a weight-loss treatment?
No. Liposuction reshapes specific areas by removing localised fat; it is not a treatment for obesity. Most patients see little change on the scales. It works best for people already near a stable, healthy weight who have fat pockets that diet and exercise have not shifted.
Will the fat come back?
Fat cells removed from a treated area do not grow back. The fat cells remaining elsewhere in your body can still enlarge if you gain weight, which can change the result. Outcomes are described as long-lasting provided a stable weight is maintained.
How soon can I go back to work?
Many people doing desk-based work return within two to three weeks, depending on how many areas were treated. Gentle exercise usually waits until three to four weeks, and strenuous exercise or heavy lifting is generally avoided for ten to twelve weeks.
Does liposuction tighten loose skin?
Not reliably. Liposuction removes fat; it does not lift or tighten skin. If skin elasticity is already reduced, removing the fat beneath can make laxity more obvious. Skin quality is assessed at consultation, and you should be told plainly if another approach would suit you better.
Will I have scars?
Yes, but small ones. Access is through short incisions, usually placed where they are least conspicuous. Scars are permanent and mature over many months. How they settle varies with skin type, and darker skin tones can be more prone to pigmentation changes at incision sites.
How much fat can be removed in one session?
There is a safe ceiling, set by your surgeon according to your health, the areas treated and current safety guidance — not by how much you would like removed. Removing large volumes in a single session raises the risk of fluid shifts and other complications.
Can liposuction treat cellulite?
No. Cellulite is caused by fibrous bands tethering the skin to deeper tissue, not simply by fat volume, so suction does not correct it. Liposuction also does not improve stretch marks. Be cautious of any clinic that suggests otherwise.
Is the procedure painful?
You are asleep or regionally anaesthetised during surgery, so you should feel nothing at the time. Afterwards, expect soreness comparable to a deep bruise for several days, managed with prescribed pain relief and the compression garment.
How long before I see the result?
A change in shape is visible early, but swelling masks the outcome for weeks. The contour becomes clear around six to eight weeks, and the final result can take up to six months as the last swelling resolves and the tissues settle.
