FUSS HAIR TRANPLANT

Follicular Unit Strip Surgery (FUSS)  Hair Transplant is frequently referred to as the “strip” hair transplant procedure. FUSS is an older means of extracting donor hair, whereby a surgeon excises a linear strip of hair and tissue from the back of the scalp. This tissue is then dissected into individual follicular units, by surgical technicians, and then placed in thinning or balding recipient regions. Meanwhile, the wound is closed with the use of sutures.

DRAWBACKS OF FUSS HAIR TRANSPLANT

The drawback to this procedure is that the patient is left with a long, linear scar across the donor area, preventing them from being able to sport a short hairstyle in the future, as the hair must be kept longer in order to cover the scar. Of greater concern, however, is that the FUSS procedure greatly decreases the usable donor hair, affecting the patient’s capacity for future procedures to restore their hair to its full potential.
