6 Unbelievable Causes of Hair Loss That You Never Knew

What Causes of Hair Loss?

It is not the vitamin deficiencies or dandruff, that causes hair loss. Some people believe that excessive hat-wearing causes baldness too. All these myths have been proven wrong by the latest research. Vitamin deficiencies and dandruff do not cause hair loss to the extent of baldness. There are three main causes of hair loss, family history, age, hormonal changes. We need to consider all factors to find the real causes of hair loss.

An adult head has approximately 100,000 to 150,000 hair. 90% of the hair on your scalp grows actively. Hair loss is also a natural phenomenon that takes place simultaneously with hair growth. Each hair follicle has its own life cycle at the end of which the hair falls out. In fact, we lose between 100 to 125 hair every day. So finding a few hairs in your on the floor or tangled in your comb is normal. In some instances, the hair loss could be significantly high and may lead to permanent baldness.

There are a number of common causes of hair loss as discussed below:

Aging

Aging is the most common of all. As you cross 30, the hair of both men and women causes of hair loss at a faster rate. On average hair grows half an inch every month, but as you age the hair growth also slows down drastically. That’s when the other factors, for example, your genes, emotional stress, and poor diet come into play. When these factors start working together with the slow hair growth, a receding hairline starts to show which eventually turns into baldness.

Genetic Make up

Your Genetic makeup is the main cause in 95% of the cases. If you ancestors had baldness issues that started at a certain age, then you are likely to begin losing your hair quite early too.

Androgenic Alopecia

Also known as male pattern baldness, is the third most common causes of hair loss and is caused by an androgenic miniaturization of hair follicles. It affects about 70% men and 40% women leading to severe hair loss.

Although, hair loss patterns in men is quite different from that in women. A receding hairline and baldness on the top of head is common among men. While women have hair loss spreading evenly over the entire head. Usually they don’t go entirely bald even if they have severe alopecia.

Causes of Hair Loss

Too Much Hair Styling can ruin Your Hair

Some Harsh hairstyles have also resulted in hair loss. Use of rubber bands, rollers, Hairstyles that tie your hair tightly, or just sticking to a specific hairstyle for too long also causes permanent damage to hair follicles in particular areas of your head.

Anemia among Women Leads to severe Hair Loss

Anemia is also a common cause of hair loss in women. Anemia is a condition that exists due to iron deficiency. 1 in 10 women between the age bracket of 20 and 40 is suffering from anemia. Therefore, experiencing hair loss.

Emotional Stress

Emotional stress is less likely to cause significant hair loss as compared to physical stress, but in most cases compared to physical stress has a less significant impact on the health of your hair. Nonetheless, physical stress may lead to hair loss issues. For example, if you are going through a divorce, or just lost a loved one, you may lose your appetite as well as sleep. Any of these factors may trigger physiological stress, leading to severe hair loss.
